Not by lack of cleaning skills (although that is, indeed, questionable) but by the fact that I have relied on toxic chemicals for cleaning instead of trying to use “Earth friendly” products. If I am truly devoted to changing what I do in order to help our ailing planet, than an effort must be made.
You can purchase natural cleaning products or make your own cleaners. There are numerous books available on the subject. The Green Book by Marjorie Harris is one. Again, you can check the internet for natural substance recipes to use as cleaning agents. Here is a recipe I glued onto a recycled spray bottle which I keep under the kitchen sink: Carpet Stain Remover 1/2 C white vinegar 1 C water 2 tsp. vegetable oil based liquid soap Directions: Shake well, then saturate stain, rinse with damp cloth. Heavy duty stain: sprinkle Borax on first. I have used this homemade cleaner often with great results. Spring cleaning a chore but it should not be a dangerous endeavor. I just have to do it. Wouldn’t you know, the lawn needs to be cut again. [email protected] ©Ann Rains--June 19, 2019
