I have a goodly number of wise people in my life—people whose words and thoughts run deep. “Think eternity,” says my niece. She’s right. God knows each and every one of us. He knows what is in our hearts and what we do. A dear friend reminded me of the Ten Commandments and how important it is to adhere to these rules in keeping a peaceful community and society. In particular the Eighth Commandment: “Thou shall not bear false witness against thy neighbor.” I interpret this Biblical quote as saying, do not tell lies about your neighbor. If this is not correct, please let me know. Most of us are mere humans, not made of the cloth of the spirit. We enjoy our gardens and flowers. We love our immediate families and church families. We find pleasure in the company of friends. We are thankful for what God has given us. We do not feel a compulsion to hurt others.
This final quote sums it up better than I: “Great minds discuss ideas; average minds discuss events; small minds discuss people. Learn from the mistakes of others. You can’t live long enough to make them all yourself. To handle yourself, use your head; to handle others, use your heart. Many people will walk in and out of your life, but only true friends will leave footprints in your heart.” No stink here from Eleanor Roosevelt! [email protected]
